DARYL GRAY - Brief Biography

DARYL GRAY was a prodigy of David Howard and also trained at the ABT and SAB schools in NYC. He made his professional debut as an actor at age 14 and went on to perform as a soloist with the Brussels based Bejart Ballet and as a principal guest artist in classical roles and contemporary repertoire with ballet companies in the US and abroad.  Mr. Gray was a Broadway cast member in Bob Fosse’s DANCIN’ and appeared as a soloist in other shows, touring worldwide.  For the concert stage, he has choreographed over 70 works on 5 continents including for; American Ballet Theater Workshop, Bejart, Jeunne Ballet de France, Joffrey, Ballet San Jose, North Carolina Dance Theater, Atlanta Ballet, Batsheva Dance Co. of Israel, National Ballets of Belgium, Ballet Jazz de Montreal, Northern Ballet Theater (UK), National Ballets of Colombia and Yugoslavia, Queensland Ballet of Australia and many more. He has also choreographed and directed more than 2 dozen musicals, seen in theaters from California to New York City.  Mr. Gray has directed the staging PATIENCE for the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, choreographed CARMEN for the NY City Opera and for DanceBreak @ the Ailey and Wild About Harry for the NY Musical Theater Festival for which he won best choreography collaborated on ANDY WHARHOL WAS RIGHT for off-Broadway.  He has created dances for televison, ice dancing, video, high fashion and industrial shows, Disney extravaganzas and A Celebration of the American Musical, which was televised “Live from Lincoln Center”.  His theatrical dance production with singers, PIRATES OF PENZANCE! has toured internationally and was voted “Best of the SF Bay” when re-choreographed and stage for Ballet San Jose. This production is now being developed in to a new Broadway musical PIRATES! the Dance Musical for Broadway 2016/17 Directed and choreographed by Mr. Gray and presented by Tony Award Winning lead Producers Bruce Robert Harris and Jack W Batman (ON THE TOWN, PIPPIN, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, THE 39 STEPS AND MORE).  Mr. Gray is a Fulbright Fellow and member of the International Council of the Dance (Paris). A popular Ballet Master and teacher, he has taught for Harvard, Washington, Vassar Universities, University of Norway, USF, 16 DMA Chapters and 4 National Conventions, DEA, SAB, Conservatories,  Steps, Broadway Dance, numerous Schools, Ballet Companies and Dance Organizations worldwide.
